Spectrum Burst

step 1
Before we begin, know that at any time you can stop if you are happy with your result, however feel free to save it as a different file name and continue with the tutorial, as you may find you’ll like the results you acquire later on better.
step 2
First, open up a document any size you like, I chose to do this on a wallpaper-style canvas, so I chose my size as 1280 (width) by 960 (height) so I could resize it to my resolution later on. Now, grab the gradient tool (check out these settings) and get ready. Make about 3 long gradients across your document... long being from one corner to another. Alternate them, though, say, click on the upper-left corner and drag it to the bottom-right corner. Then go from the bottom-left to the upper-right. Then go from the bottom-center of the image to the top-left corner, something like that. Then make very small gradients, maybe about one to half a centimeter wide (on your screen). Maybe as long as two or three underscores (__ ) or so. Make them all around one area, but just in different directions. For example, always click on the same spot, but just drag up a half-centimeter, then let go. Then click on that same spot and drag up-right-ish, and let go, and so on and so forth, until you get something like this.
step 3
Call this layer “one.” Now duplicate this layer by pressing CTRL + J. Rename this layer to “two.” Go to Filter > Brush Strokes > Dark Strokes, and use the default settings. Click OK, and it should look like this. Now on layer “two” change the blending options to Linear Light. Press CTRL + E to merge the two layers together. Your image should look like this.
step 4
Now you should have one layer called “two.” Rename it “three,” because technically it’s the third layer. Duplicate the layer again (CTRL + J) and rename it to “four.” Now go to Filter > Sketch > Bas Relief and use the default settings. Click OK, and it should look like this. Go to layer “four” and set its blending options to Linear Light again. Now merge the layers together (by pressing CTRL + E) and rename this layer to “five.” The contents of this layer “five” should look something like this.
step 5
Looking good. Like I said earlier, you can stop here, but if you’re looking for something a little more, keep reading. I will now explain how to make the image appear to be more glossy and beveled. Duplicate this layer (CTRL + J) and rename it “six.” Go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap and use the default settings. It should look something like this. Now set the blending options on layer “six” to Lighten (as opposed to Linear Light, for example). Now merge these layers together and you should get your final product. Mine looks like this: Click here. Hope you've enjoyed. E-Mail me with any problems.
